Frightfully Cute Halloween Card

by Bonnie Hershfeldt, September 27, 2021

Hello from Deadwood, SD!  I hope you had a wonderful fall weekend even though it may still feel like summer!  We took a road trip for a long weekend in Deadwood.  Beautiful Indian Summer - it's still in the high 80's here!  We left on Thursday afternoon and stopped to visit my husbands Aunt and cousins in Holyoke, CO.  It was a great visit!  Friday, we arrived in Deadwood and spent the evening walking the streets of Deadwood and enjoyed seeing the historical buildings.  Saturday, we took a drive out to Devil's Tower in Wyoming.  Such an unusual land formation!  Sunday, a drive out to Wall to see Wall Drug Store and a little souvenir shopping.  While shopping in one of the stores, we heard that Kansas was playin in Deadwood that evening.  We snagged front row tickets to see Kansas at the Deadwood Mountain Grand Event center - what a bonus!  And the extra bonus was to see some beautiful fall colors with no traffic on our drive home today!  It was a nice break from work.  What did you do to enjoy the weekend?

Before I left, I created more Halloween cards with my Frightfully Cute Stamp set.  The design came from September's Love to Create team meeting's Make n' Takes using the Frightfully Cute Bundle.  Here is my alternative card using a super black and white striped paper from the 2021 Annual Catalog's Hostess special - Pattern Play 12" x 12" Designer Series Paper in place of the Orange and Black paper from the Cute Halloween 6" x 6" DSP in the original card design as I had used all of it up making treat boxes!

My favorite image in the Frightfully Cute Stamp Set is the potion bottles!  I just think they are a perfect ooky spooky image for Halloween!  I used my Stampin' Blends to color the labels on the bottles in Granny Apply Green, Highland Heather and Pumpkin Pie.  I used a Sponge Dauber inked up with Gorgeous Grape to "distress" the the rims of the circle to add a little more depth.

I used my Hammered Metal 3D Embossing Folder on my Pumpkin Pie background to give it a scaly texture.  Spooky enough for a cute Halloween card?

Here is the original card design that was included in last week's Prize Patrol!

I was sad when I didn't have anymore Orange & Black 6" x 6" DSP to make more of this cute card design that I almost gave up for the day.  I dug in deep though and knew that I could come up with something similar!  I haven't used many papers from my Pattern Party DSP and remembered - ooo - black and white prints!  (More on how to get your pack down further in the blog.)  When you have lemons - make lemonade!   So glad I didn't walk away!  What do you think?

What color combinations, images and embossing folder will you use to try making this card?  Doesn't need to be Halloween themed!  I would love to see what you make!

To make this Frightfully Cute Halloween card:
