So Very Merry Santa Card

by Bonnie Hershfeldt, August 09, 2023

Happy Wednesday!  Today's Facebook Live was going to showcase the sweet So Very Merry Christmas Photopolymer Stamp Set.  However, my mom was rushed to emergency yesterday and admitted to the hospital with severe dehydration.  It was a scary afternoon as her blood pressure dropped so low that they could barely find a pulse.  She was resting well last night after receiving lots of fluid and lots of care at the hospital.  I'll be back live later this week once she is stable and feeling more herself.  In the meantime, thank you so much for your healing thoughts for a speedy recovery!

I know - it's still so early for Christmas, but it will be here you before you know it.  For crafters, late summer early fall are a great time to get a jump on your Christmas cards and crafting projects.  Especially, if you are thinking of making handmade items for a craft fair.  I've had great intentions to work on projects monthly and here I am 8 months into the year and I haven't one project to put in my craft fair inventory!  I'm thinking that I may need to block out an entire week towards the end of the month for the next 3 months and just focus on that as November is going to be here before we know it!

I was out looking at Pinterest on Thursday to see what others have been making with the So Very Merry Christmas stamp set, especially the Santa Claus.  I happened upon Karen Ksenzakovic of Creative Stamping Designs.  She created what I am going to call a fun fold card that was something I had yet to try.  It's a flat card front - no swinging open of the large card.  Let's just call it a card base.  She then made a small vertical open card that is adhered to the large card base.  I changed the color scheme slightly as I wanted to use black, red, pink, soft green similar to the new Festive Tags Kit in the Kit Collection.

I created a fun wintry background on the pool party layer by making a mask template from the Dots & Spots Dies.  I used this as a mask (or stencil) to use with Shimmery White Embossing Paste.  This creates a background with sparkly snowflake dots!

I used Whisper White Craft Ink to stamp actual snowflakes from the Seasons of Chic stamp set along with fun splotches from the Layering Leaves stamp set on a Flirty Flamingo card stock to create a background for the small card front.  Both of these techniques enable you to make many cards without running out of your favorite DSP.  I made these for a swap card event and made 8 of these cards!

The Labels Aglow dies was released in the 2022 July - December Mini Catalog and was definitely one of my favorite dies for holiday projects!  I was thrilled when this carried over into the 2023 -2024 Annual Catalog to play with once again!  I used this to border the stained glass Santa.

The 6 stained glass images in the So Very Merry Christmas stamp set are perfect for those that enjoy coloring!  Karen used tape to split her 'Tis the Season to be Jolly sentiment into two separate sentiments.  I actually did "Stamp Surgery" - LOL!  I cut it in half as I am much more confident by using two separate stamps!  I really want to create additional cards using the angel and the circular sentiments in the very near future!

I used my Stampin' Blend Markers as they are my favorite coloring medium.  These images would also be perfect for Watercolor Pencils or watercolor techniques using Black Embossing Powder, Water Painters and ink/ink refills.  I used Basic Black, Flirty Flamingo, Pool Party, Real Red, Smoky Slate and Light Natural Tone Stampin' Blend Combo Markers.  I added Wink of Stella to Santa's hat for the pompon and the brim to give it a little glitter!  I used the dark Flirty Flamingo for Santa's red button nose.  I'm thinking maybe the light Flirty Flamingo would be better.  Thoughts?

To complement the black/red/pink/blue theme, I embellished with Black & White 1/4" Gingham Ribbon and a Rhinestone Basic Jewel.

Facebook Live will be later this week due to my mother's emergency hospitalization.  Thank you for your understanding!
